The Arkansas State Plant Board administers certification examinations at its Little Rock office and at various locations across the state. A passing score of 70% is required. Exams are offered on a regular schedule, and applicants must register in advance. Study materials are available through the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service. Failed exams may be retaken after a 14-day waiting period.

Service Technicians may begin work immediately under direct supervision. Commercial Applicator certification requires passing the exam but does not have a strict experience prerequisite. Licensed Pest Control Operators must demonstrate at least 1 year of practical experience in pest control before applying for their license.

A high school diploma or GED is required for commercial applicator certification.
